Intermittent Fasting...Yes or No? Intermittent fasting, keto, paleo, south beach, (insert newest fad here) all "work" IF AND ONLY IF one requirement is met-- Energy Balance...Calories in vs calories out. There is NO diet in existence or even possibly in existence until the laws of thermodynamics are invalidated that avoids this requirement. If one of those models works well for you, and helps you take in fewer calories than you expend, awesome! We use lots of tools in our toolbox, and I love having options that help people fit the energy balance requirement into real life. I am not against any diet model which helps someone achieve that. HOWEVER, our approach here at 15 Minute.Fitness focuses on one thing that most diet models do not. We make a distinction between "losing weight" and "losing fat". All "weight loss" is not equal. We hold to the long-term strategy that the only way to ultimately free yourself from the yo-yo diet loop that most

Why the Rich Get Richer and the Fat Get Fatter (The P-Ratio)   If you have lived for any time in our society, you have seen with your own eyes the phenomenon that those with a surplus of money tend to get richer and richer, while those who live hand-to-mouth tend to continually struggle at that same subsistence level. Why? It is a basic premise in business school that excess capital is an asset to be used in wealth creation. How?  Well, if you have more money than you currently need to pay your bills, then you can invest that extra stash and earn more money. If you do that smartly and judiciously, that interest earned adds to the principal invested and earns even more interest.  Doing this over and over compounds your return and soon your principal is earning as much as you do in your full-time job. Every dollar you add to that principal increases its ability to earn a return. In effect, you have turned your extra capital into a working, contributing member of your household. Now, inst

It is an unpopular truth! Lifetime leanness comes from lifetime fitness. Not a lifetime of low calories and restrictive eating. Fad diets and extreme calorie deficits are not sustainable. Eventually you will eat again and without muscle on your frame to use those calories your body will just turn them back into fat. Finding a fitness routine that builds muscle is the only way to stay lean for life. You will continually burn calories with your workouts and you will increase your overall metabolism. Your body will be firm and toned and automatically look leaner and have sexy curves. And burning more calories with muscle means that you can eat more calories - you still have to make some healthier choices BUT you can still eat pizza and have beer like a normal person!! Can you find 15 minutes into your day to create a fitness program that will fit into your life forever? If so, comment below and we will show you how to do it! --Jackie Schwartz

What is YOUR BIG WHY? We have been asked a lot recently about motivation…. How do I keep myself motivated? Obviously fitness does not start in the gym! It starts in your head. Without any reason to be motivated you will not step into the gym or lift a dumbbell or stretch a resistance band! It starts with the decision that you want to be healthier. And that decision is always made for a reason. If you want to be able to stay motivated, you have to find your BIG WHY. The BIG WHY is different for everyone. For some it is to look good on the beach. For others it is because the doctor has told them if they do not make a change then they are putting their life at risk. For a lot of us it is our family… We want to be there for our children for a long time and we want the time we have with them to be the best it can be. For Kevin and Amanda the BIG WHY is their kids. They decided they wanted to be the kind of parents that have the energy to DO things WITH their kids. Not just b

15 Minutes a Day of Strength Training... That is all it takes to get all of the benefits of strength training and the benefits are HUGE. --You will burn more fat than cardio! - Cardio burns calories while you are exercising but once you are done the benefits stop! Strength training burns calories long after you stop training. Your body needs to use those calories to build and repair the muscles from your strength training workout and it does so for the next 24 hours! --You will look leaner! We all want to be thin but none of us wants to be “skinny fat.” Building muscle gives us an athletic, toned body. It is firm and has shapely curves. J.Lo did not get that booty from eating ice cream. There is plenty of muscle there to keep it lifted up! --You will boost your metabolism! Maintaining muscle tissue takes a lot of energy! A high metabolism is one that burns more calories. Having muscle on your frame means you are burning more calories all day long. --It is easier to mainta

Why do we write books and coach health & fitness?

Why do we write books and coach health & fitness? According to Jonas: Most people are just plain misinformed. They are guided by scientific and anecdotal evidence that is decades old.  The most recent scientific research has made it resoundingly clear what things actually work in terms of changing body composition and what things are just a huge waste of time.  We want to be the voice of truth for all the people out there who are confused, overwhelmed, and mystified–people who need to lose fat and get healthy but don't really know where to start.  Our message to them is that it is far easier than they have been led to believe, and we've created a  step-by-step guide  to lead regular people towards lifelong health, strength, and fitness in this book. Teaching young children in gym class for years motivated Jackie to retire from the school district in order to coach the parents of these children toward a healthier lifestyle: It broke my heart to see very young children alrea
